Dr. Cyndi Jordan is a Senior Licensed Psychological Examiner – HSP, a Licensed Professional Counselor – Supervisor – MHSP and a Registered Play Therapist – Supervisor. She is also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy) with a special focus on children and the integration of EMDR with play therapy and sand tray therapy. She graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Psychology and Religion. She earned a Master of Science in Counseling and a Doctorate of Education from the University of Memphis. Dr. Jordan also completed the teacher certification program through Rhodes College and became certified in psychology, sociology and Bible, as well as becoming a certified reading specialist for grades K-12.
Dr. Jordan has worked for over 30 years combining her passion for education, assessment and counseling. She believes that the integration of the three uniquely qualifies her to address the needs of the whole person (cognitive, educational, social and emotional). Her experiences include counseling in community mental health, serving as director of a church based mental health center, counseling health science students, and working in private practice. Her primary focus has been on play therapy, and counseling with children between the ages of 2 and 13, working with families, conducting child and adult assessments for learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders and giftedness, as well as conducting early childhood developmental assessments, and helping students at all levels of education to better understand their learning strengths and challenges and to learn strategies to leverage their strengths to offset their weaknesses.
She has also worked as an independent school teacher, Director of Learning Skills, Director of Counseling, and Head of Early Childhood and Lower School within Memphis area independent schools. She has been a teacher educator for undergraduate and graduate college students at both the University of Missouri – St. Louis and the University of Memphis. Additionally, she served as the Director of Academic Support Services for UTHSC. She has worked as a Disability Consultant for a number of universities across the United States, including UTHSC, Dartmouth and the University of Connecticut, as well as for the Educational Testing Service. A part of her work with the Educational Testing Service was helping to develop documentation guidelines for learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder and psychological disabilities.
Dr. J’s desire is to come alongside her clients, valuing who they are, while helping them to meet life’s challenges and become all they hope to be. Her greatest hope is that they will come to personally understand the depth of God’s love, grace, and acceptance and to see themselves as beautifully and wonderfully made by our Creator. She also seeks to infuse her time with her clients with laughter and joy even as we grapple with life’s difficult issues.
Outside of work, she loves spending time with her friends and family, playing with her dog, and exploring and engaging in fun adventures whether it be going to a concert, playing a game, finding a new place for dinner, white water rafting or swimming with manatees.
