Kim’s counseling philosophy is grounded in John 16:33, where Jesus says, “I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” She believes that while we live in a fallen world, placing our trust in the Lord allows us to experience peace even in the midst of chaos.

Before coming to HeartLife, Kim served as a full-time Latin teacher at ECS for seventeen years. She viewed her work with students as part of her ministry, helping adolescents navigate the challenges they face during a formative stage of life. In response to the increased anxiety and depression observed among children and adolescents since the onset of COVID, Kim pursued a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the Townsend Institute at Concordia University Irvine.

Through her own experience with counseling for complex trauma and family conflict, Kim developed a deep desire to use her gifts and training to support others in their healing and growth. She is passionate about helping clients of all ages discover purpose and move toward greater wholeness. Kim approaches counseling with empathy, attunement, compassion, and humility, using an integrative approach tailored to each client’s needs. Her work may incorporate cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, emotionally focused therapy, Internal Family Systems, solution-focused brief therapy, and the Townsend Model of Character Structure.

Outside of her professional work, Kim enjoys traveling and has visited eleven countries. She also enjoys reading, crossword puzzles, cross-stitching, jigsaw puzzles, baking, walking, and spending time with family and friends, including her husband, two adult children, son-in-law, and granddaughter.

Education

Kim earned a Bachelor of Arts in Classics, with concentrations in Latin and Greek, from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She has applied this academic background throughout her seventeen years of teaching Latin at Evangelical Christian School.

She graduated in December 2025 with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Concordia University Irvine’s Townsend Institute.
