Ted Mattis is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an Ordained Minister. For the past 26 years Ted has worked with individuals, couples and families within the clinical context and in the ministry context as a pastor. He has extensive experience working with couples in crisis, treating addiction and addictive systems, as well as working with people struggling with depression, anxiety and anger issues. He graduated from Georgia State University with Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Mental Health. He earned his master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from Reformed Theological Seminary in 1997 and his Master of Divinity in 1999. 

His passion is to facilitate restoration and redemption of broken family systems and help couples, families and individuals heal and grow within themselves, their relationships with others and in their relationship with God, in Christ.   In the past, after serving as a Marriage and Family pastor at several large congregations around the southeast, Ted held the position of Director of Lifetime Covenant Ministries, working in partnership with local churches and national ministries like Family Life to bring marital resources to the Memphis and Mid-South Community, the West TN rep for TNPAP for impaired medical professionals, TLAP, West TN rep for impaired legal professionals as well as establishing his own private practice before joining the HeartLife staff. 

Ted works closely with individuals struggling with alcoholism and addiction as well as addicted family systems.  His counseling specialties are depression, anxiety and other mood disorders, addiction (substance & sexual) and addictive family systems, preventative and pre-marital preparation, marital enrichment, redeeming marital dysfunction, family systems, and working with young adults.  He is also a certified SYMBIS facilitator for pre-marital and marital enrichment.  

Ted has four children, one granddaughter, is a long-time friend of Bill W., loves writing music and playing golf, working with wood, playing with his dog Jack and backpacking as often as possible into the wilderness.
