Book - Restless by Jennie Allen (view on amazon)

Recommended by Rachel Huff, MMFT, MCE, Licensed Brain Health Trainer

When suffering enters your life or things become confusing, it can be challenging to know what God is doing. Why did God allow these things? How can He ever use this? What is your purpose? What is God doing? This book by Jennie Allen walks you through exercises that will encourage exploration of your own life to help you discover the threads God is weaving to create who you are today. She uses the life of Joseph as a parallel throughout the book and is a great place for self-exploration and understanding of what God might be building in you or intending to do through you. It will help breathe some hope into the difficult part of your story and remind you there is a bigger picture than the current circumstance you are in. Through the questions, Scriptures and insight, it leads to a better understanding of how your story then weaves into the greater story of God.

Book - You Can Rest: 100 Devotions to Calm Your Heart and Mind by Katy Boatman (view on amazon)

Recommended by Michelle Bates, LPC-MHSP

This is a great daily devotional book for girls aged 8 to 12. Each devotional focuses on relevant stressors for this age group including: "when you worry about tomorrow," "when you feel left out," or "when you're having a bad day." I like this book because it's easy to find a devotional that fits your girl's current situation, or it can also be read as a daily devotional. It includes scripture, devotional thoughts, prayers, and journaling pages. It's so powerful for young girls to know they aren't alone in what they are experiencing and that Scripture speaks into their daily lives. It's also a reminder to parents of the different emotions, worries, and stressors young girls face daily.
